  1. When did Alabama start requiring annual elevator inspections?
    In June 2004 the state started requiring annual inspections of all elevators, escalators and other such conveniences. Our firm was on of first to get license to provide this services.
  2. Why did you do my inspection?
    We do inspections at the request of the owner, property manager, your elevator Maintenance Company or The State of Alabama. In many cases we are asked to do the inspection because the inspection is well past due. In each instance it is the property owner who is responsible for the inspection fee.
  3. How much does it cost me for the inspection?
    Alabama mandates the annual inspection fee by Statute.
    a. Elevator inspections are $90 each.
    b. Escalators require both an internal and external inspection which are $90 each.
  4. What do I do if I have a violation on my inspection report?
    If there are any violations noted on your annual inspection report the state will inform you of what they need from you to verify correction. Once they receive verification of repairs, they will send you an invoice for your certificate fee; once paid the state will send you a certificate of operation.
  5. Does your inspector work for the state?
    No. Our inspections work for our company not the state.
  6. Why do I have to pay VAA and the state?
    Our fee is for the inspection of your equipment, the states charges you for the elevator operation certificate they issue.
  7. How much does the state charge for a certificate?
    At this time their fee is $75.00. We suggest you call them if you have any questions about their pricing.
  8. When will I receive my certificate of operation and who will send it to me?
    The State of Alabama will mail your certificate usually between 2-3 weeks after all necessary fees have been paid and any paper work completed, providing the equipment has been inspected within the preceding 12 months.
