Why do you need an
inspection?
Chapter 399, Florida Statutes requires elevator inspections
on all units except elevators serving only two adjacent
floors with a full service maintenance contract continually
in force. However, for liability reasons, a code inspection
on the two-story units is highly recommended.
Changes to Florida Law, signed by Governor Bush on June 5
2002 and effective the same day, require Third Party
Inspections performed annually.
Regular inspections play a crucial role in the safety and
code compliance of each elevator. Quality inspections
provide elevator owners and property managers a tool for
evaluating the condition of their equipment while
identifying areas requiring improvement or correction.
What is a Third Party Inspection Company?
A Third Party Inspection Company must be registered with the
Florida Bureau of Elevator Safety, with Certified Elevator
Inspectors, insured at least in the minimum limits required
by law, and be independent of your elevator maintenance
company.
Having your equipment inspected, and code required test
witnessed, by a certified elevator inspector is the key to
determining your equipment's safety and correctly
identifying problems related to excessive wear or equipment
age.
