Vertical Assessment Associates is an approved continuing education provider for numerous agencies and associations on elevator related topics.
Courses provided
Continuing education workshop (8 hour) credit for nationally certified Qualified Elevator Inspectors (QEI), approved by the National Association of Elevator Authorities International (NAESA) and Lift Technologies International (LTI). Both organizations certify QEI inspectors under the auspices of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) which writes the National Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators, ASME A17.1. This course covers ASME A17.1, ASME A17.2, ASME A17.3, the National Electrical Code, National Fire Alarm Code, Life Safety Code, and other codes affecting elevators, elevator inspection procedures, and safety practices.
Approved continuing education credit for individuals holding the nationally recognized Certified Elevator Technician (CET) certificate issued by the National Association of Elevator Contractors (NAEC). This is an 8 credit hour course covering elevator codes, safety, and practical elevator knowledge.
Continuing education classes for Elevator Certificate of Competency holders are approved by the Florida Bureau of Elevator Safety. This course fulfills the 8 hour annual continuing education requirement.
A preparatory class for the Florida Certificate of Competency exam. This class teaches how to find rules in the elevator and electrical codes, and how to take the CC exam. This class is excellent for general elevator knowledge or preparing for other elevator code exams, and would also provide the annual continuing education requirement for current Florida Certificate of Competency cardholders. Attendees will need to be there ready to start at 8:00AM and need to have a 1996 copy of the ASME A17.1 and 1996 or 1999 or 2000 National Electric Code books with them for this class.
CAM, Certified Property Managers require a certain amount of continuing education, and our course “Elevator Essentials for Property Managers” is an approved 2 hour course under the topic of “Physical Plant Maintenance”.
Classes for Firefighters covering use of elevators under fire conditions using Phase I and Phase II Fire Control Operation, and explaining proper procedures for the rescue of persons trapped in elevators using ASME A17.4 (Guide for Emergency Personnel) as a guide.
Classes for large facilities instructing staff on local government requirements for elevator operation including: maintenance, inspections, and accident reporting, as well as what to do in elevator emergencies.
Instructors Lee Rigby and Bill Strawn are members of national associations including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and the National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities. They sit on elevator code committees including ASME A17.1 Hydraulic Committee, and the ASME A17.1 National Interest Review Committee. Lee Rigby is currently the president of the Elevator Association of Florida. Both are well known in the elevator industry as being extremely knowledgeable on elevator related subjects.

QEI WORKSHOP (NAESA) & FLORIDA CC CONTINUING EDUCATION
Regularly scheduled Qualified Elevator Inspector workshops and Florida Certificate of Competency continuing education classes are scheduled in conjunction with the quarterly Elevator Association of Florida meetings. Please see calendar of events for the current schedule. The cost for QEI workshop credit is $150.00 per person, the price for Florida CC continuing education credit is $75.00 per person.
FLORIDA CC EXAM PREPARATION CLASS
A preparation class for Florida Certificate of Competency exam will be given by request the day prior to the quarterly Elevator Association of Florida meeting at the same location (see calendar). Cost for this pre-class is $100.00. Participants must provide their own reference materials (1996 copy of the ASME A17.1 and 1996 or 1999 or 2000 National Electric Code books). Class Registration:
- Pre-registration is required.
- Payment is required at the time of registration. Credit card payment can be made by phone. If payment is to be made by check, you will be registered upon receipt of your check, and confirmation of registration will be given upon request either by email or phone. You must provide us with your telephone number, email address and/or fax number.
- No one will be admitted to class without prior approval.
- Refunds will be given to those who cancel their reservation 30 days prior to class date. Refunds will only be given after that date IF WE can replace your reservation with another attendee from our waiting list, if any.
o If your reservation can NOT be replaced, you will be able to transfer your reservation to one of the other remaining classes we will be giving during the same calendar year.
o Transfer from one class to another will be permitted during the same calendar year at the request of the attendee with prior approval from our office.
- Certificates will be handed out at the end of each class to registered attendees.
o For copies or replacement certificates please call or e-mail our office with your name, date you attended class (so we can verify your attendance), and your mailing address.

PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT ADVANCED REGISTERATION AND PAYMENT IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND ANY OF THESE CLASSES. We expect that classes will be large, as there will be ONLY ONE class given in each area, so again, advanced registration is required.
